On regrettera une annonce officiel du groupe ..

Autre chose, le groupe a été enlevée de la liste de Velvet Hammer, qui manageais le groupe.

Le blog ne sera pas fermé, il reste à disposition pour les personnes curieuses recherchant des informations sur le groupe , peut être quelques prochains messages seront postés si nous avons d'autres précisions sur la fin du groupe, ou sur Daron, peut être un lien vers son futur projet musical !
Je vais sûrement posté un sujet sur les autres membres du groupe .( je rapelle le groupe du bassiste dominic cifarelli le bassiste du groupe. " the chronicles of Israfel " )

The genius behind the success of bands System of a Down and Scars On Broadway tells us about his reliable methods of writing hits. So take your guitar and start composing!

For most of us Malakian is the brain of System of a Down and an author of original riffs. He has invented one of the most crazy, fast and heavy riffs that have ever been created. His riffs are so extended, that it looks like they're living their own life!
Daron Malakian after SOAD has gone on a hiatus made a band with John Dolmayan named Scars On Broadway. He concentrated at simple tones, melody and at climatic solos. This month you can learn Malakian's methods on writing catchy melodies. Here they are:

• 1. Discover new territories and don't be afraid of challenges.

The best riffs are made when we leave the zone in which we feel safe. In System of a Down I wrote riffs in odd metrum, because that was a big challenge for me. Truth is, I'm not good at math and I don't know too such about music from the technical side. I made a lot of strange melodies, which expanded in unexpected ways. After some time it wasn't hard for me anymore. When we started to record the Scars on Broadway album I wanted to use the proper atmosphere and melody for each song. Really, that simplicity was hard.

• 2. Don't search for an inspiration if you don't have to.

Allow the song to breathe. If you will try too hard you can make it go bad. In 99,9% of my time I can't make anything good, but I have moments that when I take a guitar and I can make a great melody easily. It's looks like I don't have any influence on this and before I notice I finish making a new song. It's spontaneous. On the Scars On Broadway CD there are songs that I even don't understand yet. I just wrote them. Well, that's my style.

• 3. Think about the whole song.

Imagine the whole song built around the riff you wrote. In my opinion there aren't any recipies on how to make a song. The riff, drums, vox and other elements come to me at the same time. Sometimes I know at the beginning how will the keyboard part look. I have the whole thing in my head. I will never show a song to the guys in the band until it's complete.

• 4. Forget about principles!

Your song must have character. Don't be scared of experimenting. Invent
new things. I composed the music to the SOB album for the guitar and the
keyboard. I don't use principles. I make things that I like to do. For me a riff must have an atmosphere. It doesn't have to be complicated. For example - look at the riff of Satisfaction by the Rolling Stones. It has an atmosphere, but it's so easy. The same is with the They Say riff - simple, with three or four notes, but perfect. Doesn't need anything else.

• 5. Don't repeat yourself.

Imagine your song on the radio. Would you like it? When I was playing in System of a Down I wanted to make every album different. I don't want to repeat myself. I look for a song that I'd want to hear on the radio. I don't want to make another Aerials.

• 6. Don't play solos if it's not necessary.

Don't make solos only because of the principle. For me a song is like a kid. If he wants a solo, he will get it. Don't create a solo only if because you want to do it. I love solos and I could make them all the time, but it doesn't have to be in every song. My solos are usually improvised. I like to make solos that I can hum. The crazy solo from They Say - I first recorded it on the keyboard. In the background I heard the drum machine and the bass line and I just played to it on the keyboard.

• 7. Play it with your band.

You like what you wrote? It will sound better when you will play it with your band. I usually write my songs at home from 3 to 6 AM. That's when I make the best music.I recorded the demos for Scars On Broadway at home with a drum machine. They sounded so electronic. They Say sounded like a Sisters of Mercy song. It had a dark and gothic character, but when I played it with the band, it changed a lot. So you can record demos at home, but remember that when you will play it with the band it will be a completely different song.

Cette interview est datée du 2 Juillet 2oo8, c 'est à dire, la veille de leur concert à la maroquinerie .

Rockmag : Tu as mentionné pour la 1re fois le nom de Scars On Broadway en 2003...

Daron ( chant/guitare ) : Ce qui est marrant, c'est que j'ai ce nom dans la tête depuis 5 ans,
mais le groupe " physique " existe depuis très peu de temps. Je pense que
dans mon subconscient, sans vraiment savoir ce qui allait se passer avec System Of A Down,
ce nom préparaît d'une certaine façon le terrain pour autre chose.

Rockmag Tu te rappelles la 1re fois que les mots Scars On Broadway ont émergé dans ton esprit ?

Daron : Oui, j'étais sur Broadway, à Los Angeles. Sur le trottoir, il y avait des tags de Swastikas.
Je me souviens avoir pensé : Swastikas On Broadway, ça c'est un putain de nom de groupe!
Puis le mot Swastikas m'a fait hésiter et je l'ai finalement remplacé par Scars,
car ces croix gammées étaient en quelques sorte des cicatrices sur Broadway.

Rockmag : Est-ce qu'au sein de System Of A Down, tu étais fatigué d'être considéré comme faisant partie d'une entité politiquement engagée ?

Daron : Dans System, il y avait 2 visions de la politique : la mienne et celle de Serj.
Il préférait pointer du doigt certains problèmes spécifiques, comme le pétrole ou
le président des Etats-Unis, et apporter des éléments de réponse. Ce n'est pas ma façon de penser.
Je ne suis ni contre ni pour personne, je préfère commenter notre société dans son ensemble,
sans donner des leçons. Je dis simplement : voilà le monde dans lequel on vit!

Rockmag: Ta description de notre monde est très pessimiste. Je pense au titre " Enemy " dans lequel tu chante " We are the enemy of the Earth ", nous sommes l'ennemi de la Terre...

Daron : On n'arrête pas de nous rabâcher des conneries du genre : Dieu nous a mis sur Terre,
on est en train de détruire notree planète, il faut faire attention. Dieu ne nous a pas mis là,
nous sommes une étape de l'évolution. On Nous dit que c'est la fin du monde.
Non, c'est la fin de NOTRE monde. Ce que je te dis est difficile à accepter,
mais j'en suis persuadé, l'ennemi du monde, c'est nous.

Rockmag : C'est un peu ce que tu dis dans le 1er single " They Say "...

Daron : Tu as bien cerné le message du morceau. Let's Fuck the world et profitons du peu
de temps qu'il nous reste en se faisant plaisir ( sourire )!

Rockmag : Pour être honnête, je pensais que l'album solo de Serj allait être très différent de SOAD et que Scars On Broadway allait nous offrir une sorte de nouvel album de System. Finalement, c'est l'inverse, alors que Serj perpétue certains schémas, tu as décidé de prendre une orientation rock inattendue, avec très peu de métal...

Daron : Tu ne peux pas savoir à quel point ce que tu dis me fait plaisir.
C'est l'une des raisons pour lesquelles l'album a mis plusieurs années à sortir.
Je voulais vraiment une évolution. L'idée a commencé à germer
à l'époque de Mezmerize et Hypnotize, mais elle atteint vraiment son apogée
avec Scars On Broadway. Je voulais changer la perceptionque les gens ont de ma musique.
Je voulais aussi mettre en valeurdes influences qui me tiennent à coeur,
comme la pop des 60's ou l'éléctro minimaliste de Kraftwerk et l'indus de Die From...

Rockmag : Le 29 août, Scars On Broadway jouera à Rock en Seine. Serj Tankian est aussi à l'affiche. Une situation similaire s'est présentée cette année au Coachella. Comment ça se passe dans ces cas-là ?

Daron : Plutôt bien, il est même venu nous voir après notre concert au Coachella pour discuter.
C'est quelqu'un de très bien, mais j'avoue que j'évite de suivre sa carrière de trop près
pour me consacrer à la mienne. Je lui souhaite le meilleur pour l'avenir.
Il n'y aura jamais de haine entre aucun des 4 membres de System Of A Down.

Rockmag : Vous avez juste voulu évoluer chacun de votre côté...

Daron : Hmmm ( silence ). Disons que Serj a préféré faire son truc de son côté.
Pour être honnête avec toi, j'étais très satisfait de SOAD et j'aurais encore pu continuer comme ça,
mais le fait que les autres membres préféraient mes compositions à celles de Serj et
je comprends qu'il ait voulu partir pour travailler ses propres chansons. Mais j'aurais fait
la même chose à sa place. Et dans tous les cas, je suis persuadé que nos chemins
se croiseront à nouveau dans un futur pas vraiment proche ( sourire ).

Rockmag : Tu vas lui envoyer l'album de Scars On Broadway ?

Daron : Non, il ne m'a pas envoyé le sien, après tout ( rires ).
